CCD STEERING COMMITTEE Meeting - Minutes
July 14, 2002

3:05 pm CCD Steering Committee meeting convened in the home of Lilian Bryan.

Steering Committee members present: Bruce Tarnopolski, Jan Kent, Lalah Hightower, Rob Harper, and Lilian Bryan.
Guests: Harriette Liske, Roger McLain, Kevin Liske, Christin Whittington and Ann Robinson.

MINUTES of the last meeting on June 18th were adopted without change.

WEB-SITE SURVEY: Seth has designed a web-site survey to gather feedback from SC members on out-of-town dance bands and callers. Bruce made a motion that the survey go on list-serve and be available to all dancers. The results of the survey will be made known only to Seth and the SC members. This motion was seconded and unanimously approved.

CCD ELECTIONS: There will be elections held this October to fill places of
three SC members (Scott Russell, George Snyder, Brian Baker) whose term will be up. The terms go by calendar year and therefore the new term will begin in January. It was proposed that the new CCD Treasurer, Harriette Liske, become a SC member, which will leave two openings on the committee.
Bruce proposed the following election procedures, according to our bylaws: a
nominating committee will be established. The members of this committee will
be chosen by the SC. The nominating committee will attract and nominate
candidates. The nominating committee will then present the slate of new SC
members to the dance membership, who will then vote the new SC members in. We discussed the pros and cons of having a married couple on the SC.

NOVEMBER DANCE THEME:
Joseph Steinhauser’s suggestion of the "Dr. Seuss" theme was discussed
further and the title, suggested by Joseph, GREEN LEGS AND JAM was adopted. We discussed a logo for the dance, depicting a Dr. Seuss hat with green legs. To be entirely certain on the legality of using the Dr. Seuss theme in text and images, Bruce will check with a patent lawyer regarding the copyright laws. Lalah suggested buttons of a hat with legs dangling down. Christin will compose the text for the registration form.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Harriette will open a new account for CCD and take care of all necessary business.

FREE DANCE/OPEN COMMITTEE MEETING:
Bruce suggested a free Friday night dance in October to be combined with a
meeting with all the dance membership present. We will serve refreshments,
potluck style. The short meeting would take place during the break. Bruce wants to take this opportunity to make the dance community aware of CCD accomplishments during the year and thank people who have given support to the dance community, especially local bands and callers and outgoing SC members. At this time, the official elections of the new SC members will be held. We will announce the specific needs for help for the November Dance weekend. Bruce will ask the dance community for feedback. No other (outside) announcements will be made this evening to keep the meeting short.
Bruce suggested we get the Jump in the Skillet band to play that evening.

CCD SPEAKERS RENTAL: the members of the SC decided that, as a rule, we will not rent out the CCD speakers.

THEME DANCES: Bruce suggested that we have occasional Friday night theme dances, such as Halloween, Valentine and other special themes.

NEXT MEETING: will be held Sunday, August 11, at 11:00 o’clock at Lilian
Bryan’s house (2355 Virginia Place – 404-266-1963). As always, the members
of the dance community are cordially invited to the meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
