CCD STEERING COMMITTEE Meeting - Minutes
August 13, 2003
The meeting was held at Christin
Whittington's home at 7:30 p.m.
CCD Steering Committee members
present: Rob Harper, Jan Kent, Lalah Manly, Harriette Liske,
Bruce Tarnopolski, Emily Vorder Bruegge, and Ann Whitley
Guests: Pam Eidson, Karl Hagen, Kevin
Liske, Kimberly Sessions and Christin Whittington.
OLD BUSINESS
Sexual Harassment Policy
Several steering committee members brought in copies of employer's sexual
harassment policies. Ann Whitley volunteered to draft a brief policy
statement for CCD. Pam Eidson inquired of another dance group's policy,
and the reply, was received Thursday, August 14.
The question was raised: Do we need a procedure to deal with complaints
of sexual harassment or other offending behavior in the future? Two
suggestions were made: A) Ask all of our callers to spend a little time
on teaching etiquette, comfort and safety to dancers. B) Post our statement
on our website this is the statement currently in the CCD Directory
"about that swing".
Confidential Discussions
It was suggested that if it is ever necessary to discuss an individual
by name, the meeting may be limited to steering committee members only
during that discussion.
ATLANTA WALTZ SOCIETY
Kimberly Sessions attended the meeting as the Vice-President and Treasurer
of the Atlanta Waltz Society. CCD shared information regarding dance
weekend planning. The upcoming Waltz Weekend will be a mixture of waltz
and contra dancing.
It was suggested that we have Letters of Agreement to spell out specifics,
whenever we have another group sharing our Friday night time/space/dancers
with us (Atlanta Waltz, English Country, What the Hey).
NOVEMBER DANCE WEEKEND:
Due to the cancellation by the Rocket Boys' fiddle player, Pam Eidson
will continue to work on finding alternative Friday night music for
the November Dance Weekend. The Rocket Boys might find a substitute
fiddler and still play for us. Advertising for the dance weekend at
this point will say something like "Fabulous Regional Band."
A mailing party for the flyers will be planned around the time of the
Labor Day weekend.
MISCELLANEOUS
A Book Swap was suggested as a good social event/conversation starter
for dancers. The side room in the church was suggested as a location.
It was pointed out that the side room needs cleaning. Dancers could
swap books and leftover books could be donated to appropriate recipients.
October might be a good month for this.
Morningside Baptist Church is going to repaint the gym during the November
dance weekend.
John Murray has asked permission to give massages free of charge in
the upstairs room during dances and hand out his business cards. Steering
Committee was in favor of this idea.
It was pointed out that we really should be wearing the buttons more
regularly as a help to the community. It would be helpful if we had
some blank buttons available at the desk. Each organization that uses
the button materials should pay for what they use.
STEERING COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Four people are coming off the Steering Committee next calendar year.
We need 3 new people for 3 years and 1 person for 1 year. The hope was
expressed that one of the three members who are about to cycle off will
stay on for one more year to help provide a little transitional continuity.
WHAT THE HEY
Bands for What the Hey 2004 were announced: Skeezik and Flapjack, and
the String Beings are playing New Year's Eve.
ADJOURN
The next meeting was set for Sunday, September 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.
at Ann Whitley's home. Meeting Adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Emily Vorder Bruegge, CCD Recording Secretary
